Goa says ‘no’ to drinking in public places

Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has decided to go tough on those who drink and create nuisance in public places. The CM announced that the state will ban drinking of liquor in public places in order to curb this nuisance. The necessary amendments to the excise act will be put in place by next month.

“We need to come out with a notification banning drinking of liquor in public places. The notification will be issued by October end for which we will amend the existing law,” Parrikar said at a function in Goa recently.
The state government currently governs the issue of licencesto liquor outlets under the Goa, Daman and Diu Excise Act, 1964. The state has already announced ban on drinking in selected public places including beaches.
