Sanjay R. Bhoosreddy, Additional Chief Secretary, Excise Department, Government of Uttar Pradesh, has informed that the UP government will allow the sale of expensive foreign liquor from shopping malls.
From shopping malls in UP imported foreign liquor, Indian Scotch, all brands of brandy, gin wine, vodka and rum worth more than Rs.700 and cans of beer worth Rs.160 or more will be allowed to sell.
The annual license fee of such a shop in shopping malls has been fixed at Rs. 12 lakh rupees and this license can be obtained by any individual, company, firm or society. The shops will be fully air-conditioned but will not be allowed to serve liquor in their premises.
Bhoosreddy also informed that to stop the sale of illicit liquor in UP and in order to enable liquor consumers in the state to get legal standardised liquor, a continuous enforcement drive is being carried out.
From April-June 2020, as a result of enforcement action taken in various districts of the state of Uttar Pradesh, 14,732 cases have been registered in which 3,39,848 litres illegally manufactured liquor, 37,855 litres of country liquor and 29,663 litres of foreign liquor have been recovered.
The inspection of shops is also being conducted by the preventive officers in the state. As a result of the action taken in the districts of the state of UP, after the opening of liquor shops 64 over rating cases have been caught in this year till the month of June 2020, against which further action is being taken as per rules.
