Mandir Mahasangh seeks to ban liquor shop near temples

The Maharashtra Mandir Mahasangh, an apex body of various temple managements across the state of Maharashtra, has planned to put a ban on the sale of liquor and meat within 500 meters of important places of pilgrimage sites in the state.

Maharashtra Mandir Mahasangh took this decision at the seven-day Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Rashtra Convention in Goa.

According to Maharashtra Mandir Mahasangh's coordinator Sunil Ghanwat, a delegation from the organisation will meet with each District Collector in the state of Maharashtra to present a formal demand. To talk about this, they will also try to meet with the Chief Minister, Eknath Shinde. The body has voiced that the liquor stores are not to be located within 50 metres of educational institutions, houses of worship, and ST bus depots, according to the current excise department regulations of Maharashtra in the municipal council or corporation.

The drive will shortly get underway, with an emphasis on significant Vaishnava temples, Jyotirlingas, and Shakti Peethas.
