According to the news report of a leading daily, the Uttar Pradesh government has given the green signal to set up microbreweries in hotels, restaurants and pubs in the state. This step can bolster the cow corpus set up by the Yogi-led government, which entails protecting stray cattle through imposition of 0.5 percent levy on liquor and beer sale.

The Cabinet Minister in the UP Government and the Member of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly from the Mathura Constituency in Mathura district, Srikant Sharma said the decision was taken to cater to the rising demand from restaurants and hotels in the state of Uttar Pradesh, especially from such establishments in Noida and Ghaziabad.  He also said that the initiative would give an impetus to the tourism and employment opportunities in the state of Uttar Pradesh.

The policy would be implemented post amendment of the UP Breweries Rules, 1961. The entrepreneurs setting up microbrewery plants in the state would have to give a license fee of Rs.2.5 lakh annually. The renewal of license would cost Rs.2 lakh. Moreover, a restaurant or a hotel in the state will be able to serve only 600 litre of freshly made beer per day, and 2.10 lakh litre annually. Flouting the rule would attract a fine of Rs.5000 per day.
