A major market of the premium segment of alco beverages in India lies in the price range of Rs. 4000 to 6000. This is true for single malt whiskies, vodka or for any good spirit, opines Amit Goel, MD, Rad Elan Distributors Pvt.Ltd.

Rad Elan has already been working with the premium segment in spirits. As a company, it is constantly striving to keep up with the changing times, consumer preferences and global trends. “Our portfolio has a variety of premium spirits across champagne, sake, gin and whisky,” shares Amit Goel, MD, Rad Elan. Talking about the industry impact of adding premium brands, he says it depends on how the product is presented in the market. Sometimes the image of the product is defined by the cost as well as the region to which the product belongs and sometimes the product is presented in the market as a trendy or a fashionable product, irrespective of the connection of the product from the source. In both these kinds of products, the segment of consumers is entirely different. Giving details of the company’s recent launches, he says: “We have recently launched Cobalto 17 Gin from Portugal. It is a premium gin which has won many awards and accolades globally, and is very well-received by the Indian consumers so far. It is priced at Rs. 4815.” On the impact of the growing trend of ‘drinking less, but better’ on profit margins, he opines that this may affect retail and service outlets in India where the consumers may consume a lesser amount of drinks than their usual capacity. “
