Italy unhappy with Ireland's plan to introduce health warning on alcohol

Ireland moves to go ahead with a plan to have a health warning on the label of beer, wine and spirits products. This proposed initiative has made Italy uncomfortable.

An announcement has been made in this regard after it passed the deadline for the European Commission to oppose it. In June last year, Ireland informed the concerned agency about its plan. No objection was raised by the commission on this intention of Ireland after the set time limit despite protests from alcoholic beverage producing countries including Italy and Spain.

With this proposed measure Ireland intends to warn alcoholic beverage consumers about the risk of cancer and liver diseases linked to alcohol consumption . Additionally, the labels will also include information on all the risks of drinking alcoholic beverages for pregnant women.

Italy's a farmer's association, described Ireland's plan as "terrifying" and claimed that it is "directly attacking" their country.
