NHRC acts against hooch tragedy in TN By Spiritz Desk 23 May 2023 in Alert New Update Notices have been sent by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to the Tamil Nadu government and the state’s police chief over the unfortunate death of several people through alleged consumption of spurious liquor in Villupuram and Chengalpattu districts of Tamil Nadu. According to the commission, apparently, the government of Tamil Nadu had failed to prohibit the sale and consumption of illicit or spurious liquor in the state. The commission has observed that the media reports pertaining to this tragedy, if true, translates to violation of the right to life of the people. This has called for these notices.
