According to Tamil Nadu’s Electricity, Prohibition and Excise Minister, V Senthil Balaji, the closure of the 500 Tasmac retail outlets would be announced in a week. Additionally, all liquor stores in the state will have CCTV cameras installed.

The procedure to identify liquor vends near temples and schools in Tamil Nadu, based on complaints from locals, is in its final stages. The list is being produced, and an official announcement will be made in a week.

He has also stated that a Detailed Project Report (DPR) is being developed for the installation of CCTV cameras in all Tasmac retail shops throughout Tamil Nadu, in order to put the safety measures into effect and to guarantee transparency in the sale.

There are currently 5,329 retail liquor outlets operating in Tamil Nadu, according to the policy note of 2023-24 that was presented to the legislature.
