Diageo India urges for inflation-indexed price rise

Diageo India has pushed for liquor price hikes tied to inflation as well as a unified tax system for India’s liquor industry.

Diageo argued in favour of putting liquor under the GST framework, which would have the added benefit of ending the illegal booze trade and making it a far more tightly controlled business, even for the state governments.

Hina Nagarajan, MD & CEO of Diageo India, has stated that state governments frequently alter their policy. "Our desired state would be if we could get inflation-indexed price increases. Even an industry which is quite regulated like pharmaceuticals gets that, so our request to the state governments is please look at some of these models," asserted Nagarajan.
