Kerala plans to serve liquor to IT parks

The Kerala government has planned to renew its proposal to permit the sale of alcoholic beverages in Information Technology Parks, and it will shortly submit updated recommendations to the Legislative Assembly's Subject Committee to this effect.

The government makes it clear that licences won't be given to bar owners. For serving alcohol in IT parks, specifically in entertainment centres constructed within designated zones, a new kind of licence, FL 4C, will be introduced.

The hours of operation of future alco-beverage serving outlets in IT parks of Kerala will be the same as that of bars in Kerala, and the state beverages corporation's godowns will sell alcohol to be served at these IT parks. Companies will need to take strict action to solve problems like workers being caught drinking while on the job, and establishments won't provide alcohol to anyone who isn't from the IT park.
