The Berry Bros. & Rudd introduces 2023 summer release

To commemorate the 325th anniversary of Britain's oldest spirits merchant, Berry Bros. & Rudd has introduced six single malt whiskies and an Exceptional Cask Blended Malt, displaying innovative spirits and flavour profiles from all over the world.

The different whiskies are Masthouse 2017 Cask #16, Exceptional Blended Malt 1979 Cask #5, Small Batch Benrinnes 2010, Glen Moray 2008 Cask #5710, Dufftown 2008 Cask #96 Pineau Finish, Caol Ila 2010 Cask #311751 Oloroso Finish, and Orkney 2006 Cask #5051 Oloroso Finish.

Each of the seasonal releases in 2023 will feature a whisky from the thriving English whisky scene.

Fresh tropical fruits and American oak are expertly balanced in Masthouse 2017 Cask #16, and the two blend together beautifully. Fresh melon, canned pineapple, and buttered popcorn scents become more intense. On the tongue, this harmonious theme is carried on and results in greater tropicality, an oak-driven coconut flavour, and a plush texture. Before some delicate spices show, there are more fresh fruits on the palate. The price is £125.00.

Exceptional Blended Malt 1979 Cask #5 features mouth-watering scents of coconut, warm gorse blossoms, melting butter, and honeyed toast. The palate is both alive and expansive, rolling around the mouth with flavours of spiced fruit, mango, subtle hemp, wood polish, and beeswax. Orange and lychee are among the fruit flavours in the aftertaste. For £450.00, you may acquire this whisky.

The scents of Small Batch Benrinnes 2010, which include honey, fresh hay, and warm floral notes that develop over time in the glass with citrus and fresh Granny Smiths, transmit the liquid's mouthfeel. With its substantial texture and rounded overtones of fruit and golden syrup, the palate is incredibly drinkable. The retail price is £70.00.

Glen Moray 2008 Cask #5710 costs £90.00. Cherry and apricot gradually appear on the nose along with notes of banana milkshake, praline ice cream, and marzipan. On the palate, waves of vanilla pods, sweet oak, and cereals are accompanied by flavours of dried banana and sweet wheat. The conclusion is lengthy and includes rice pudding, fruit salad and chocolate.

The Dufftown 2008 Cask #96 Pineau Finish smells of stewed apricot, orange marmalade, and lemon curd in Pineau Finish entice one in. A little water is added to bring out the soft baking spice and the vivid green fruity distillate overtones. The palate is delightfully fatty and chewy, exuding more tobacco leaf, apricot, and plum. On the finish, there is a hint of wood smoke, some wood spice, and a delectable, lingering taste of jams. The price is £100.00.

Caol Ila 2010 Cask #311751 may be purchased for £75.00. Peat and Sherry interact in the Oloroso Finish, which starts off with scents of tarry peat smoke, rich Oloroso Sherry, iodine, and prunes with hints of fireworks and beef jerky. The palate is equally powerful and rich, with layers of dried fruit and citrus, layers of sooty peat smoke from Caol Ila, and aromas of vanilla pods, spice markets, and salty coastal wind that gradually develop over time. With lingering peat smoke, waves of rich, oily Sherry oak roll across the finish.

Orkney 2006 Cask #5051 Oloroso Finish has the initial whiff of turfy peat smoke and is much larger than one may anticipate from this distillery. Soon, additional odours of leather, charcoal, and hebridean bells appear. On the palate, rich dried fruits, delicate spices, dense smoke, heather, honey, and grilled lime are balanced by the impact of sherry wood. This dram has a thick mouthfeel that blends in with its turfy flavour. The cost of this superb whisky is £120.00.
