Trouble for travellers carrying liquor

Commuters from the Delhi Metro who arrive in Noida with sealed spirits bottles have been warned by officials from the Uttar Pradesh excise department that they risk legal repercussions.

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has recently allowed passengers to bring up to two sealed bottles of alcohol onto its network.

Despite the fact that the DMRC's metro train system reaches nearby towns like Gurgaon and Faridabad in Haryana and Noida and Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh, the excise laws in UP forbid the import of alcohol from other states to safeguard the state's tax revenue.

According to existing regulations, only one unsealed bottle of alcohol may be brought into Uttar Pradesh from the adjoining states of Delhi or Haryana, whether by metro or by car.
