Bulk whisky import from UK may attract concessions

As part of the ongoing India-UK free-trade agreement (FTA) negotiations, higher tariff concessions for bulk whisky imports from the UK as compared to bottled whisky is under consideration by India.

The Indian government views that bulk whisky imports can generate more employment by setting up bottling plants in the country, as compared to finished products.

India went ahead of France to become the UK’s largest market for Scotch in terms of volumes. India experienced a 60 percent escalation in Scotch imports in 2022 as compared to its previous year.
