Pernod’s plea against license refusal rejected

A plea by Pernod Ricard India was dismissed by the Delhi High Court yesterday. In its plea, the spirits major challenged Delhi government’s refusal to renew its licence to sell liquor in Delhi.

The judge, while observing that the writ petition by Pernod Ricard India was not maintainable at this stage, advised the company to appeal against Delhi’s excise department's decision before the appellate authority, which is created under excise law.

Earlier on 13th April, the liquor company’s L1 license application was rejected by Delhi’s excise department because of ongoing investigation against the company pertaining to violation of Delhi’s now scrapped excise policy for the 2021-22 fiscal.
