Delhi requests DMRC to change liquor carrying policy again

Delhi’s excise department has asked Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to change its rules of carrying liquor bottles and directed DMRC to permit just one sealed bottle of liquor per person commuting in its metro trains. The department said that as per Delhi’s Excise Act, only one sealed bottle of liquor like rum, vodka and whisky could be carried from one state to another.

Close to a month earlier, DMRC allowed commuters to carry two sealed liquor bottles in Delhi Metro trains. Earlier, carrying of alcoholic beverages was banned in all lines of Delhi metro except on the Airport Express Line.

According to Delhi’s excise department, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh have different excise rules in comparison to Delhi's. The UP’s excise department allows one unsealed liquor bottle whereas Haryana's excise has fixed the limit to 1 litre.
