Beer unfit for human consumption seized in Karnataka

The state excise department of Karnataka has seized beer worth Rs. 25 crore after a chemical test revealed that the beer was unfit for human consumption.  These  beers were of two brands.

According to A Ravishankar, Deputy Commissioner of Excise, Mysuru Rural, the Excise Superintendent of Nanjangud filed a complaint with his office on 28th July alleging that Kingfisher Strong Beer and Kingfisher Ultra Lager Beer with batch number 7C and 7E, which were manufactured at the Nanjangud unit of United Breweries Limited on 17th July 2023, had sediments, and therefore they had been sent for chemical analysis.

Besides registering the case, the department has initiated steps to decimate this beer stock. The Excise Superintendent requested that the stock should be seized until the lab test report arrived.

Meanwhile, United Breweries Limited has informed that it was an isolated incident in a single batch of Kingfisher Ultra only, not with Kishfisher Strong. To clarify the matter, the company is coordinating closely with the authorities.
