Karnataka proposes to increase number of liquor outlets

The issuance of licenses for new liquor stores in Karnataka has been proposed by the Karnataka’s excise department.

The proposal envisages 389 new liquor outlets operated by Mysore Sales International Limited (MSIL) across various locations in the state, allowing for liquor outlets along national and state highways within Gram Panchayats in Karnataka having population more than 3,000, and the possibility of liquor sales in supermarkets. The proposal has attracted criticism.

The excise department of Karnataka has also suggested reintroducing licenses for Independent Beer Outlets (R.V.B.) which were discontinued over a decade ago.
