Andhra Pradesh’s excise revenue shows sharp increase

The excise revenue of Andhra Pradesh has substantially increased from Rs. 17,473.25 crore in 2019-20 to Rs. 23,785 crore during the 2022-23 fiscal. During the 2020-21 fiscal, the excise revenue of Andhra Pradesh was 17,890.01 crore. This increase in excise revenue during the 2022-23 fiscal is despite the Andhra Pradesh government’s claim to taking measures to reduce alcoholic beverages’ consumption in the state.

According to APSBCL’s Managing Director, D Vasudeva Reddy, the increase in excise revenue from 2019-20 to 2022-23 in Andhra Pradesh is because of the increase in liquor prices in the state, which was done to discourage the alcohol addicts in line with the Andhra Pradesh government’s commitment to reduce the consumption of alcohol in the southern state.
