Uttarakhand permits home mini bar

A new provision to grant permission to have mini bars at home has been included in Uttarakhand’s new excise policy for the 2023-2024 fiscal, albeit with a few important caveats.

According to Rajiv Chauhan, the District Excise Officer for Dehradun, anyone who has been filing ITR for the past five years can apply for the licence at the District Magistrate’s office, which will issue the home bar licence at an annual fee of Rs. 12,000.

Once granted the license, the licence holder will be allowed to store nine litres of beer, 18 litres of foreign alcohol, and nine litres of Indian-made foreign liquor at home. Anyone applying for a home mini bar licence must submit an affidavit attesting to the satisfaction of specific requirements.

Moreover, the home bar should be only used for individual use and any commercial activity with that home bar is not permitted. Additionally, one must keep the bar closed on designated dry days and must make sure that no one under the age of 21 enters the bar. Furthermore, the home bar will only be inspected when the licence has been renewed
