One of the world’s oldest whiskies on auction

One of the world’s oldest whiskies, which was discovered behind a cellar door at 750-year-old Blair Castle, Perthshire, the ancestral home of the Dukes of Atholl, will be auctioned.

Reported to be among the world's oldest, the Scotch is believed to have been distilled around 200 years ago, and it is possible that Queen Victoria had a drink of it when she visited the castle.

In late 2022, Resident Trustee of Blair Castle, Bertie Troughton found about forty bottles of the unusual beverage in the cellar. It is thought that they were distilled in 1833, put into bottles in 1841, and then put back into bottles in 1932.
