The Macallan releases single malt to mark its 200th anniversary

The Macallan has released the second edition in its series of rare single malt Scotch whiskies which highlight the “story of the distillery’s pioneers and their legacy”.

Called Tales of The Macallan Volume II, the release is a “homage” to Alexander Reid, who was the Founder of The Macallan, and shows him as a teacher, farmer, and distiller on his journey, as the globally renowned whisky producer marks its 200th anniversary.

Tales of The Macallan Volume II was distilled in 1949 and bottled in 2022, and its unveiling was held to coincide with The Macallan's 200th anniversary year. The 73 year old whisky, bottled at 44.8 percent ABV, is punctuated by lingering smokiness, according to tasting notes from whisky maker Euan Kennedy.

With a limited release of 344 decanters, Tales of The Macallan Volume II is retailed for £77,391.
