Telangana relaxes excise duty norms

Telangana's excise department has made a proposal to local and national companies to supply liquor in the state without paying the 30 percent standard excise duty as liquor manufacturers have been curtailing the liquor supply in the state.

As per the rules, distilleries, and liquor, beer and wine manufacturing companies must pay 30 percent excise duty per case of the bottles in Telangana. Companies supply to Telangana State Beverages Corporation and get paid based on the offtake at the depots of the corporation.

As per the reports, the Telangana excise department’s outstanding dues to the liquor companies increased to Rs 4,000 crore from Rs 1,000 crore. Due to pending huge dues, many companies have cut the supplies to the state including some prominent liquor brands.
