In October of this year, Taiwan-based Kavalan will release its second shaved, toasted and re-charred (STR) whisky in Taiwan as part of a four-bottle Christmas set. The spirit used to make the to be launched whisky was distilled from peated barley. The whisky will be the first peated expression of Kavalan distillery.

Late Dr Jim Swam and Kavalan together developed the STR technique in Taiwan, in 2006. The STR technique endows the beverage with “bigger, bolder, fruitier flavours” along with “smoky malt aromas” from the peated spirit.
