Pea-based climate positive vodka flows in

Arbikie Distillery from Scotland has come up with a pea-based ‘climate positive’ vodka. It is claimed that the vodka makes a carbon saving of 1.53kg CO2e per 700ml bottle, which can more than offset the Co2 generated through this vodka’s making. This environment-friendliness has been achieved through the use of pea.

Unlike other legumes, peas produce much of their own nitrogen and thus do not need synthetic fertiliser which are being generally used to grow cereal crops like corn or wheat. Moreover, peas have much more protein than cereal crops, which leads to the creation of  by-products known as pot ale that can in turn be re-used, which in turn can lead to emission reduction.

The gin comes under the ambit of Arbikie’s range of climate positive spirits, which is named Nàdar. Earlier, Arbikie Distillery launched a pea-based environment-friendly gin under this range.
