Celebrating cooperation between the Indian and Australian wine industry

On 2nd May, Austrade hosted a wine appreciation event in BKC, Mumbai with the objective to celebrate cooperation between the Indian and Australian wine industry. The event had the presence of Lee McLean, CEO of Australian Grape and Wine.

At the event, Lee appreciated the Indian government for its proactive stance towards reducing tariffs for Australian wines. He also commended the endeavour of the Indian wine communities for striving towards investing in R&D to improve the yield and quality of the wine grapes in India, with help from the Australian Grape and Wine.

Ashwin Rodrigues, a winemaker working closely with Austrade, aired that with the help of Australian Grape and Wine and Austrade, they have started the first R&D division for wine grapes at the Indian agricultural institute in Nashik, a first of its kind.

The event gave the guests an opportunity to savour a few choicest Australian and Indian wines which included – St.Hugo from Coonawarra – a full bodied Cabernet Sauvignon, Filius from Margaret River region and the fun and light Killibinbin. The Indian wines flowing at the event included names like Grover, Fratelli and Sula Rasa. The pairing of these wines with Australian lamb made for a delectable combination.
