Proactive moves to counter illicit liquor business in UP

Preventive action is being carried out regularly by the excise department of UP in order to control the manufacture, sale and smuggling of illicit liquor in the state, says Sanjay R. Bhoosreddy, Additional Chief Secretary, Excise Department, UP.

During the last three months, 13,619 cases pertaining to  manufacture, sale and smuggling of illicit liquor in UP were registered all over the state in which 4,56,413 litres of illicit liquor were recovered and 4900 persons were arrested, and 203 vehicles were seized .

Additionally, checking was also carried out against over rating during this period and action has been taken against the shops and the responsible officers/staff as per rules in 90 cases of over rating.

The District Excise Officers and Preventive Officers have been directed to conduct special drive against the manufacture and sale of illicit liquor in UP during the by-polls in the state. In addition to this, considering the Bihar Legislative Assembly general elections in the offing, seventeen check posts have been established in seven bordering districts of the state of UP and excise officers and staff have been deputed round the clock to prevent the smuggling of liquor into Bihar.
