Spiritz Selection heralds a new era

We had planned to kick off the Spiritz Selection Awards much before the Covid-19 turned into a pandemic of mammoth proportions. Our plans were set, modalities were fixed and the team was gearing up to go the whole hog. But our enthusiasm and spirit were somewhat dampened as we had to tide over the initial five months of series of lockdowns.

When the gradual unlocking phase commenced, we announced to India’s alcobev industry that 2020 would herald a new beginning in awarding excellence for liquid & packaging of the whole spectrum of brands floating in India’s beverage alcohol space.

The odds were heavy and the dice was loaded. It brought out the fighting spirit in the Spiritz team at its best. Being the first ever exercise of this scale and scope in India, both Indian and international companies (including some of the biggest names) were game enough to participate in the blind tasting competition, that too with great enthusiasm.

The pandemic did not dampen the spirit of competition and we safely reached the finish line on time. And, finally it was time to unveil names of the winners. On 17th October at 6.30 pm, the awards ceremony went live on Spiritz TV – our latest venture in the digital space.

Holding audience attention in the digital space is no easy task. Moreover, the joy de vivre of the real physical event needed to be replicated, virtually. Our efforts bore fruit as there was an overwhelming response, with more than 100,000 impressions during the live streaming. Many hundreds watched the entire event for more than two hours. These high numbers speak for themselves and reflect the massive interest the awards generated in digital space, both in India and abroad.

Since many brands entered the fray, competition was extremely tough and hence those who came up triumphant and emerged as medal winners truly deserve the accolades. What was on display was superb craftsmanship of brand makers and thorough ingenuity of label & packaging designers — both elements called for huge celebrations. A medal – be it gold, silver or bronze –can be easily construed as the validation of their excellent work.

Those who remained strongly in the competition but missed by a whisker should not lose heart and return with greater resolve in the 2021 edition of Spiritz Selection Awards.
