It is surprising but true that despite the environment of pandemic looming over us, during the New Year’s eve, liquor sales in Noida and Greater Noida surpassed expectations. The liquor sales growth in Noida and Greater Noida during the last two days of the last year, as compared to the corresponding period in 2019, was the highest in four years.

According to concerned officials, alcoholic beverages worth Rs.4.10 crore were sold in Noida and Greater Noida during 30th and 31st December 2020, which was markedly higher than Rs.2.75 crore during the last two days of 2019. Out of this Rs.4.10 crore, the sales from IMFL was Rs.2.30 crore, while the sales from countrymade liquor was Rs.1.35 crore during the last two days of the last year, in Noida and Greater Noida. The sales of beer in Noida and Greater Noida during those two days was Rs.45 lakh.

People in these cities were seen queuing outside the liquor shops, where turnout was impressive. The high retail sales of alcoholic beverages in Noida and Greater Noida on the New Year’s eve could be accounted by the sheer paucity of  big events hosted by hotels, restaurants and pubs in the twin cities.
