Penfolds, the wine brand from Australia, has come up with a quartet of California wines. These wines are primarily based on fruits grown in Paso Robles, Napa and Sonoma.
The new labels are the Bin 600 Cabernet-Shiraz, the Bin 704 Cabernet Sauvignon, Bin 149 Cabernet Sauvignon, and Quantum Bin 98 Cabernet Sauvignon. Bin 600 Cabarnet-Shiraz is priced at 50 USD, Bin 704 Cabernet Sauvignon comes at 70 USD, and Bin 149 Cabernet Sauvignon is priced at 149 USD. Quantum Bin 98 Cabernet Sauvignon is the most premium of these four offerings - it comes at 700 USD per bottle. All the newly launched wines are based on the 2018 vintage.
Bin 149 and Quantum labels aren’t strictly Californian wines though. According to Penfold’s Chief Winemaker, Peter Gago, his team blended a small amount (14 percent and 13 percent respectively) of Australian wines to improve these wines’ overall structure and complexity.
Bin 149 is spruced with a dollop of Australian Cabernet Sauvignon, while the Quantum Bin 98 has some Australian Shiraz flowing in to it.
