Nati image on liquor bottles sparks controversy in Himachal

Himachal Pradesh’s domestic liquor company named the country made liquor brand “Nati” and used pictures representing Nati on liquor bottles to boost their liquor sale, however, the liquor company’s move backfired.

Nati is a traditional dance form of Himachal Pradesh that symbolizes joy and festivity. The opposition from various corners has compelled the state’s Excise and Taxation Department to order the removal of the images of Nati from country-made liquor bottles.

The state government had approved the label after the completion of all legal formalities.

The country liquor has a share of 35 to 40 percent in the overall excise sales worth Rs 1,875 crore in Himachal Pradesh.
