No alcohol drinking and sales at Tokyo Olympics venues

The organisers of the forthcoming Tokyo Olympics have decided not to allow selling of alcoholic beverages at venues. When media reports emerged that organisers were considering permitting alcoholic beverage consumption in Olympics venues it resulted in public outcry earlier this week. The hashtag “cancel the Olympic Games” garnered tens of thousands of tweets.

“Following experts’ advice, the Organising Committee decided against selling and drinking alcohol drinks at the venues so as to prevent spread of infections,” Tokyo Olympics President Seiko Hashimoto told reporters.
