With the addition of two new ‘Superblends’ composed of Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz, the Australian wine brand Penfolds has enhanced its luxury wine portfolio. The first of these Superblends will be launched in October, in the UK’s select retail outlets, while the second wine will be launched in the next year’s Collection release.

According to Penfield’s Chief Winemaker, Peter Gago, the Superblends have been given the working names of ‘802.A’ and ‘802.B’. He informed that 802.A was solely matured in 100 percent new American oak for 22 months, and 802.B was aged for 19 months in 54 percent new French oak and 46 percent one-year-old barrels. Moreover, different winemaking techniques for each of these wines were adopted.

Both the wines are made of fruit sourced from leading terroirs in South Australia, including the Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale and Clare Valley.
