ISWAI asks for inflation-based pricing policy for Telangana

Liquor industry body seeks inflation-linked pricing in India

In order to reduce the effects of rising raw material costs and minimise the arbitrary nature of the supplier price setting process in India’s alcobev industry, the International Spirits and Wines Association of India (ISWAI) has urged the Telangana government to choose an inflation-based pricing policy for the alcoholic beverages industry.

Alcobev makers and suppliers in the state are adversely hit by rapid inflation in input material costs, despite the alcobev business experiencing a rise in volumes and the state experiencing an increase in excise collections.

Nita Kapoor, CEO of ISWAI, observed that with a combined 52 percent share of IMFL (Indian produced foreign spirits) and BIO (bottled in origin) products, Telangana is a progressive state that is at the forefront of the premiumisation trend.

Kapoor added that there hasn't been a supplier price increase for the IMFL sector in the state since 2020.
