MP to fix minimum selling price for mahua

Mahua, which is branded as a 'heritage liquor' in Madhya Pradesh, is expected to be priced between Rs. 800- Rs.1000 for a 750ml bottle. Soon mahua liquor bottles are expected to adorn the retail shelves.

According to officials, the indigenous spirit will be positioned by the MP government as a premium state product and its minimum selling price will be fixed. This step would be initiated to eliminate exploitation of self-help groups engaged in the manufacturing of mahua with the help of tribals, from the middleman. The state will also not interfere in the maximum pricing of this heritage liquor.

Furthermore, Mahua will be sold only in bars and liquor shops in Madhya Pradesh and not in composite liquor shops in the state.
