Bhakta Spirits steps into rum market

Bhakta Spirits, a US based company, has introduced Bhakta 1990 Rum which is the brand's maiden foray into the rum market.

Raj Peter Bhakta, the creator of the well-known whisky line WhistlePig, founded Bhakta Spirits. The company had previously released the 2013 Bhakta Bourbon and a 50-Year Armagnac, which is finished in Scotch Casks.

Bhakta 1990 Rum is a concoction of two Jamaican single cane vintages. The rum combines a 23-Year Jamaican pot still rum distilled at Appleton Estate with a 25-Year column still Jamaican rum distilled at Clarendon/Monymusk (CHP) distillery.

The rums were first blended in 2014, and they were the product of being matured for an additional three years in MGP bourbon and rye barrels with a second fill. Ultra-rare Single Vintage Bhakta 1976 and 1980 Armagnac casks were used to finish the rum's maturing process. This special edition is bottled at cask strength with a 62 percent ABV and has no additional sugar and colouring.

Only 1,500 bottles of the Bhakta 1990 Rum have been released and each bottle costs 500 USD.
