Maharashtra seeks the possibility of duty reduction on beer

Addressing the concerns of the beer industry in Maharashtra, the state government has established a panel tasked with evaluating the potential reduction of beer-related duties within the state.

The panel, led by the Additional Chief Secretary of State Excise, has been assigned the mission of studying strategies to boost revenue from the beer business in the state, with a report due within one month. One key aspect of their examination involves analyzing models adopted by other states that have successfully reduced excise duties on beer while simultaneously increasing revenue from the beer industry.

The panel, headed by the Additional Chief Secretary of State Excise, comprises the Commissioner of State Excise, Deputy Secretary of State Excise, Additional Commissioner of State Excise, and a representative from the All-India Brewers’ Association.
