Govt plans to revamp FSSAI

The central government will soon introduce an amendment bill in Parliament that aims to revamp functioning and jurisdiction of Country’s food regulator Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).

The Union health ministry has proposed several amendments to the Food Safety and Standards (FSS) Act of 2006 which will bring reforms in the functioning of the FSSAI.

The FSS Act was passed in 2006 and the regulations were notified after five years in 2011. The proposed amendment bill aims to strengthen the FSSAI to ensure compliance of applicable laws by food business operators across the country.
