In a significant development, the Manipur cabinet legalised liquor in the state. More than three decades ago, Manipur had enacted the 'Manipur Liquor Prohibition Act' in 1991.
Chief Minister N Biren Singh 's government recently approved manufacture, production, possession, export, import, transport, purchase, sale and consumption of liquor in the state. The state government expects to receive annual revenue of around Rs 600-700 crore from lifting the prohibition from the state.
