Another sustainable initiative from Agave India

Another sustainable initiative from Agave India

Agave India, the makers of the DesmondJi brand of alcoholic beverages, has taken another sustainable initiative at its craft distillery by making the shift to fully running all its electrical devices, including all heavy machinery, by using solar power generated from panels on its facility's rooftops.

Here it deserves a mention that Agave India positions itself as Asia’s only distillery to manufacture Agave spirits and they are at the vanguard of the movement to make Mahua a recognisable national heritage spirit of India.

Green initiatives are nothing new to Agave India. Their ‘zero discharge plant’ uses the fibrous waste matter from the juicing of Agave plants as fuel in the boilers that produce steam for distillation. Their effluent treatment facility cleanses distillery waste water making it fit for ferti-irrigation. The company also finishes cleaning the wastewater using phyto-remediation and uses the water on its own site. The Mahua flower post being transformed into an exquisite distilled spirit is composted and the resulting manure is used to nourish the thousands of trees which the company has planted to green its 44 acre craft distillery land.

In the long run, Agave India plans to have as low a carbon footprint as possible, whilst achieving its full potential and making a tangible difference in the quality of life of its collaborators.
