Indian single malts surpass international brands in sales

First Time in history, Indian single malt whiskies have outperformed international single malt brands available in India with regard to sales figures. As per an estimation by the Confederation of Indian Alcoholic Beverage Companies (CIABC), Indian single malts registered about 53 percent of total sales in 2023.

Out of the total sales of around 675,000 cases of single malts in India last year, Indian-origin single malt producers sold around 345,000 cases, while Scottish and other international brands sold the remaining 330,000 cases. In 2022, Indian and Scotch brands were close to contest dominance where the Indian single malts sold aabout2,81,000 cases with a 2.4 percent increase in sales; while the international brands sold 2,96,000 cases with a 35 percent increase in sales, according to the released data.

Domestic distilleries Amrut Distilleries Ltd., Radico Khaitan, Piccadily Distilleries , Devans Modern Breweries Pvt Ltd and others have been producing single malt brands like Amrut Single Malt, Rampur Single Malt, Indri-Trini and GianChand. Recently, International alcobev company Pernod Ricard’s Indian branch launched its first made-in-India single malt Longitude 77. Last year, Diageo’s India operation launched its first Indian single malt, Godawan.
