John Barker assumes office of DG, OIV

In the presence of International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV)’s President, Luigi Moio, representatives from the diplomatic corps, administration and professionals from the vine and wine sector, John Barker said that it was a privilege to be taking the position of Director General in OIV’s one hundredth year and in the International Year of Vine and Wine. He has recently assumed the august office of DIG of OIV.

The 21st OIV General Assembly meeting, held in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain, elected John Barker from New Zealand as the Director General of OIV in June 2023, for a five-year term.

John Barker is a legal expert with more than 25 years’ experience in the vine and wine sector. He has a long history with the OIV, having attended his first OIV meeting as a researcher in 2000. He was President (2009-12) and Vice-President (2012-2014) of the Law and Economy Commission of OIV.
