India urges UK for finalisation of FTA ahead of elections

India is pressing the UK to finalise the India-UK free trade agreement before the Lok Sabha poll announcement, according to a report.

New Delhi has communicated to its UK counterpart that if the deal isn't concluded pre-election, it may be postponed until the new government forms. The UK delegation, led by Douglas McNeill, is in Delhi for talks. Disagreements involve issues pertaining to tariffs on whisky and automobiles, including electric vehicles.

The UK is also seeking opportunities in telecommunications, legal, and financial services in the Indian markets.
