Delhi HC urges LG to decide on conforming and non-conforming wards

The Delhi High Court has requested the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, V K Saxena to decide on a matter pending before him regarding the conforming and non-conforming wards for liquor vends in the national capital. The HC remarked on the case filed to seek clarification of the court’s earlier orders and to bring on record the sequence of events.

In the 16th February order, the single judge bench noted that on 29th March 2022, the HC had proposed a committee be constituted to examine the “factual situation prevailing in different wards and localities so that an authoritative list of conforming and non-conforming wards is prepared after verification”.

The HC had then requested the counsel for the respondents to take instructions and to convey the request of the court to the L-G regarding the constitution of the committee. On 8th April 2022, the HC was informed that the LG had issued a notice on 6th April 2022 regarding the constitution of a five-member committee comprising the Excise Department, Delhi Development Authority (DDA), and the three Municipal Corporations. The committee was to carry out a detailed survey to identify the conforming and non-conforming wards for liquor vends in Delhi.
