Sculpting a Sucess Story

When Reecha Kumari decided to shift from healthcare to the alcoholic beverages industry, eyebrows shot up and there were murmurs of disapproval. That was in 2014 when a woman in India entering the male- dominated alcoholic beverages industry was an aberration. But the power of resilience, which Reecha feels is her strongest ally, made her go ahead. Having found her mentor in Sachin Abrol, she took on the crucial role of Head – MIS/ Administration at Amistad Spirits Private Limited along with shouldering the responsibility of excise- related issues. Now, she can take credit for being a role model for many women who have forayed into this trade.

Guess what was the most difficult thing to overcome when Reecha Kumari decided to enter the liquor trade industry in 2014? No, it wasn’t that the trade had its own metaphors that had to be learned and experienced. Rather, it was the task of convincing her parents to allow her to carve a career in an otherwise male- dominated sector. But, like many other things, Reecha surmounted the obstacle and is now in the coveted position of Head (MIS and Administration) with Amistad Spirits Private Limited. “My perseverance paid off and it has been 10 years since I embarked on this journey, which has indeed been an interesting one,” Reecha recollects.

Turn of Events

As a woman, Reecha says that she has had a simple yet fulfilling life. She completed her schooling and graduation in her hometown and went to Pune to pursue her MBA degree. After a period of struggle, she landed her first job in the healthcare sector. In 2011, she made the decision to move to Delhi and join the IT sector as an MIS Executive. Reecha worked there for over two-and-a-half years.

In 2014, her career curve took a positive turn when Sachin Abrol, her mentor and leader, placed his trust in Reecha and offered the opportunity to join Amistad Spirits. Her present role has significant responsibilities wherein she also handles coordination with foreign exporters and excise matters, allowing her to showcase diverse skill- sets. “Sachin Abrol has made me an encyclopaedia of regulatory and excise matters, as well as of international brands. Under his guidance, I believe I will achieve many more milestones,” she says enthusiastically.

Reecha encountered obstacle in fulfilling her decision to work in the alcoholic beverage sector, an industry that is not universally accepted due to its association with alcohol consumption, and has traditionally been considered taboo across different societal strata. Despite the reservations held by society, she refused to let this hinder her aspirations. “Instead, I embraced a positive mindset and viewed failures as valuable learning experiences. Furthermore, I took it upon myself to mentor and support my female colleagues, empowering them to achieve their own goals,” she narrates.

Over time, Reecha has guided one of her female colleagues in understanding the trade and the legislative excise policy, enabling her to independently handle tasks. She shares that she is passionate about fostering open communication, providing constructive feedback, and advocating for equal opportunities, all of which have contributed to creating a nurturing work environment.

“My journey has been defined by my ability to confront and overcome challenges. Through determination, resilience and a commitment to supporting others, I have transformed obstacles into stepping stones for personal and professional growth,” she says.
