CCTV cameras in bars and restaurants in Maharashtra
In response to recent hit-and-run incidents in Mumbai and Pune, the Maharashtra state excise department is installing CCTV cameras at the main counters of all restaurants, bars, and pubs. Excise officials will monitor these cameras to detect any irregularities.
Additionally, a five-member team is developing AI-enabled cameras that can determine a person's age by facial scanning. If someone under 21 is detected, the excise official will be notified on their phone.
Prasad Surve, the Director of the state excise department, stated that only individuals over 21 can enter bars. Those aged 21 to 25 are limited to mild beer or wine with less than 5 percent alcohol.
