The Himachal government has doubled the cost of serving liquor at weddings and other ceremonies, increasing the permit fee from Rs 600 to Rs 1,200.

As per the norms, after complying with the set procedures and fee payment, applicants will be eligible to keep six crates each of whisky and beer at the venue. For an unlimited liquor quota, the permit fee has been fixed at Rs 1,700.

The state Excise Department has been directed to take strict action to ensure compliance on ground. Violation of procedures would attract punitive action by the authorities.

To obtain a permit, applicants are required to submit a copy of the wedding or ceremony invitation card along with their application to the local Excise Department officials. Once the fee is paid, the permit will allow legal purchase and transport of liquor to the venue.
