Liquor bottle-buy-back scheme to be extended across Tamil Nadu

From September, the liquor bottle buy-back scheme of the Tamil Nadu government is expected to be expanded across all Tasmac outlets across the state of Tamil Nadu. A decision to this effect has been furnished to Madras High Court.

The scheme has so far been implemented in only 12 districts of Tamil Nadu and the scheme has been successful in achieving its desired results to a large extent, as 95 percent of empty liquor bottles were returned after consumption of the liquor.

According to Tasmac, out of the 4,829 retail liquor shops in Tamil Nadu, bottle buy-back scheme is yet to be implemented in 4397. Out of these 4,397 shops, only 471 have space to store the empty bottles and the remaining 3,926 liquor outlets require additional space for storing the liquor bottles.
