The Odisha government has announced that no new liquor shops will be allowed to open in the state.

 Speaking to the media persons, the state’s Excise Minister, Prithiviraj Harichandan said that the state government had decided to not allow new liquor shop to be opened in the state. He said, “Illegal sale of liquor in our state poses a major challenge for us. In order to restrict it, we have made some changes to the excise policy. However, this is an interim excise policy which will last for seven to eight months.”

The Minister added that as the state government was trying to make the excise policy spontaneous, many changes could be expected in the coming year.
