The prices of premium liquor in Karnataka were expected to drop by around 20 percent, following a significant policy change. However, the implementation of the new rates might take about a week, as the updated rate cards have not yet been announced.

Although the new rationalised slabs for liquor officially took effect on 27th August, wine merchants reported that the new rate cards were still pending, and no liquor had been supplied under the revised pricing structure.

As per a  report,  government official stated that the new rates require distilleries to decide on prices and to obtain approval. Given the large number of items that need to be approved, it will take about a week for the system to stabilise. The revised rates are the result of amendments to the Karnataka Excise (Excise Duties and Fees) Rules, and are applicable to brandy, whisky, gin, rum, and similar liquors, but not to beer, wine, toddy, and fenny.
