Tripura’s Chief Minister, Manik Saha has directed law enforcement agencies to prepare a comprehensive report on those liquor shops in Tripura which are operating within 100 meters of national highways in the state. The state government is planning to implement measures to relocate these outlets to reduce fatal road accidents caused by drunk driving.

Speaking at a programme on road safety, CM Saha asked concerned officials  to prepare a comprehensive report on those liquor shops in Tripura which are functioning within 100 metres of national highways and assured that the state government would take steps to shift those outlets.

In 2017, the Supreme Court had banned the sale of liquor within 500 meters of the outer edge of national and state highways and the limit was reduced to 220 metres for locations with a population of 20,000 or less.
